Cindy Asher
Executive Director

Cindy responded to the Holy Spirit’s leading to volunteer with the Care Clinic in the spring of 2009. In the fall of 2009, she joined the staff as Client Services Director. With her 28 year career employed by the State of Michigan, her experience in assisting pregnant women with insurance coverage was beneficial to the Pregnancy Help Medical Clinic. In 2011, the Board of Directors asked Cindy to consider stepping into the Executive Director position. Her first response was “I don’t think I’m the right person, nor am I qualified.” However, upon conviction of the Holy Spirit, Cindy accepted the interim director for 6 months… in May 2011! Cindy’s area of expertise is in Medicaid eligibility for pregnant women and children, church and community relations, grant writing, and vision for the ministry. She is married to husband Joel, they live in Traunik. She is blessed to have two adult children and four grandchildren.

Linda Johnson
Office Manager

Linda joined the Care Clinic Staff in July of 2003 and manages the clinic’s financial responsibilities. She also assists with major fundraising events, newsletters, office inventory and donation receipting. Linda’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree earned in 1979 from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Vocational Rehabilitation and Special Education. She formerly taught High School Special Education in Ripon, Wisconsin. Linda also completed an accredited two year program in biblical studies with an emphasis on missions, at Rhema Bible Training Center in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Linda’s passion for life work began during her High School years around the time of the 1973 decision of Roe vs Wade. A Wisconsin native, she moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in September of 1991. There she met and married her husband, Dave and is blessed to have three wonderful step-children, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Wendy Pelto
Volunteer & Client Services Director

Wendy Pelto is the newest member of the Care Clinic staff. Wendy has spent many years
raising her two daughters Courtney and Meredith, and for the last two years has volunteered
as a mentor at the Marquette Care Clinic. She uncovered a passion to serve women who
visit our clinic while pregnant wanting to learn how to be a good mother or mothers wanting to
be better mothers. After a strong urging from a dear friend, she applied for the Volunteer and
Client Services Director position. She is grateful to work with a staff and volunteers who have a
strong faith and a strong desire to help others. She looks forward to meeting more people
eager to become part of the team at The Care Clinic. Please contact her if you are interested in

have a men’s mentoring program, too!)

Cari Detmers
Director of Advancement

After prayerfully considering what was next after her 3rd and final child graduated from High School, Cari Detmers was given the opportunity to use her skills in volunteer management and fund development at the Care Clinic as the Support Services Coordinator. Cari studied at Michigan State University and has held several management positions in various Fitness Facilities in the Midwest. Cari and her husband Kyle re-located to Marquette with their family to minister at Marquette Bible Church in 2008 with her husband as Senior Pastor. Their 24 years in ministry along with raising 3 children and 16 foster children as well as several positions in non-profit organizations, gives her a rich background and experience in helping the clients that visit our Clinic. Cari looks forward to pouring her love of family and passion for the sanctity of life into her position at the Care Clinic.

Tina Mayo, RN
Nurse Manager

Tina Mayo, RN comes to us with over 25 years of experience working as a registered nurse in obstetrics and maternal health, both in the hospital and office setting. She is also certified in perinatal bereavement and will be available to see clients as needed. As the nurse manager, Tina oversees all of the medical aspects of the clinic. She enjoys the time she can spend with each family and hopes every patient will feel cared for and supported in every aspect of their pregnancy.
Tina grew up in the U.P. and lives in the Marquette area with her husband and three children.

Kim Sego

My name is Kimberly Sego (Kim) and I have lived at Sawyer for more than 20 years.  My daughter and I moved to Sawyer when housing became available after K.I.Sawyer Air Force Base shut down.  I was a single mom and could no longer afford family housing at NMU.  My daughter was starting the second grade at the time, while I was finishing my BA in Health Education, at NMU.  After graduating from NMU I continued living in the community and got remarried and became a blended family.  Together my husband and I have four children, two grandchildren, and three dogs. My job experience includes, Family Health Educator, Head Start Lead Teacher, Community Resource Coordinator, Day Care Lead Teacher, and RK Sego Construction Business Owner, just to name a few.  My education includes an Associates of Applied Science in Early Childhood, BA in Health Education, Master’s in Early Childhood with a Specialization in Family and Community.   This community has been my home for a very long time and continues to be my home the lord has put me in the position as Site Coordinator of the Care Clinic at Sawyer I am very excited for this great adventure, and to serve this great community.
